This Korn and Vanessa Carlton Mashup Works Shockingly Well
Weeks after posting his equally cursed and amusing rendition of what it would sound like if System of a Down covered the B-52s’ classic song “Rock Lobster,” YouTuber mac glocky is back to answer a simple question. What do you get when you mix Vanessa Carlton’s early 2000s pop hit “A Thousand Miles” with the iconic nu metal stylings of Korn?
Honestly, it’s a question that’s long stumped scientists the world over. No one dared such sonic alchemy, for fear of creating something the world wasn’t quite ready for — but conventions be damned, here we are.
Despite the odd combination, it’s actually still kinda catchy in a way that only seven string guitars tuned down to A standard can bring. Along with his vocal mimicry of Jonathan Davis’ style, mac glocky sort of nails this one. He’s even got a scat part that doesn’t at all seem out of place. If I were to try to place where something would land in Korn’s discography, I’d have to guess it sounds more like their newer stuff. It certainly doesn’t feel like anything off their first few albums, that’s for sure.
Just as I found in the last post, this isn’t even mac glocky’s first Korn mashup, as he’s done covers of Britney Spears’ “Oops!… I Did It Again,” Weezer’s “Say It Ain’t So,” and Blink 182’s “All The Small Things” as if the nu metal giants wrote those songs. In a funny bit of reversal, he also did a video showing what it would sound like if Panic! At The Disco covered “Freak On A Leash.” Haven’t watched that one yet, but I bet it’s… something.
So yeah, check out the clip below. It’ll be sure to be one of the more unique things you’ll hear today.
