Conan Part Ways with Their Bassist

Doom dealers Conan are no longer to be joined by their former bassist, Chris Fielding. But it doesn’t seem there are any hard feelings—Fielding is leaving to focus more on other areas of his life, and will still be the band’s producer.

The English band haven’t announced a new bassist yet, but claim they will do so in “due course.” Fielding has been in Conan since 2013, and the final record he appeared on with the band was their 2022 album Evidence Of Immortality.

In addition to remaining on the band’s producer, Fielding will still join Conan on stage for their 2024 tour. He just won’t be on future albums or a part of tours beyond that.

“Nothing lasts forever … It is with sadness that we announce the imminent departure of Chris Fielding from Conan,” the band say about the lineup change.

“Chris joined the band late 2013, as a replacement for Phil Coumbe and established himself as a very important member both in his role as performer and also as producer. Together we have enjoyed many enjoyable trips and experiences and created music that we are very proud of. We have become close friends during that time, and so of course we support Chris’ wish to focus on other areas of his life. He will, of course, remain as our producer.

“Chris’ last shows with Conan will come during our upcoming U.K. tour in March 2024. Make sure you come along and say goodbye. We have appointed Chris‘s successor and will make an announcement on that in due course.”

Fielding had a great touch for making the band heavier and crushing, but we have no doubt that whomever they find to replace him will be equally as epic.
