Corey Taylor Kills Rumors of Jeramie Kling as Ex-Slipknot Drummer Jay Weinberg’s Replacement
Ever since Slipknot unceremoniously kicked drummer Jay Weinberg to the curb earlier this month, fans all over the world have been rabidly trying to figure out who will end up holding down things behind the kit moving forward. Some names have cropped up among the fanbase, but one dude that’s gotten a good amount of consideration has been shot down by Corey Taylor himself.
It turns out that according to Taylor, ex-Venom Inc. drummer Jeramie Kling simply ain’t the guy. Fans began believing that he was to be Weinberg’s replacement after he announced his departure from Venom Inc. by tweeting a dodgy statement that simply said “drumming is a matter of timing. Bring it to you. Invite the chaos” along with a Slipknot logo.
That shit got deleted super fast, but the internet never forgets and Slipknot fans everywhere figured Kling was the guy. Now Taylor’s out here putting cold water on the fan base’s theory by tweeting a pretty terse and clear statement on the matter.
“To everyone wondering about our new drummer… It’s not him. Stop letting him troll you. He’s not even on the list. #hesnot666“
That’s some pretty definitive proof from Taylor that Kling ain’t the guy… Unless it’s a bit of deflection and Kling actually is the guy. Who knows? All we do know is that Slipknot’s down a drummer.
Weinberg was let go by the band back on November 5. At the time, they tweeted out a statement about the ousting, but quickly deleted any mention of it from their socials and website for a time. In their explanation for the change, Slipknot said they were making the move as a “creative decision.”
“We would like to thank Jay Weinberg for his dedication and passion over the past ten years. No one can ever replace Joey Jordison’s original sound, style or energy, but Jay honored Joey’s parts and contributed to the last three albums and we, the band, and the fans appreciate it. But as ever, slipknot is intent on evolving. The band has decided to make a creative decision, and to part ways with Jay. We wish Jay all the best and are very excited for what the future holds.”
As for Weinberg, he said in his own statement a few days after the fact that he was “hearbroken and blindsided” by the decision. He’s since had hip and femur surgery done, so who knows how long his recovery will be and where he’ll eventually land professionally.
