Sh*t That Comes Out Today – November 17, 2023
It’s the week before Black Friday here in the states — a commercial holiday in which companies slash prices and shoppers slash each others for a deal. Don’t be like Auntie Karen and her three year probation; just grab a new release and enjoy the metal.
Cynic
Uroboric Forms (Reissue) (Season of Mist)
Progressive outfit Cynic are celebrating their 2017 compilation of demos Uroboric Forms – The Complete Demo Recordings by reissuing the thing this week. The demos enshrined in this reissue eventually became the band’s massive release, Focus. Featuring alternate versions of the title track and “The Eagle Nature,” this compilation of demos will only be printed once and then poof — it’s gone. So be sure to grab yours.
Deafheaven
Sunbather (10th Anniversary) (Deathwish Inc.)
Ten years ago, Deafheaven’s sophomore album Sunbather turned heads and made fans either fall deeper in love with the band or caused them to turn away. Regardless, it’s considered a monumental release that helped reshape the face of heavy music in 2013. Relive the album with this 10th Anniversary remaster/remix.
Gridfailure
Shards In The Wire (n/a)
Gridfailure are weird, first and foremost. Yet if you’re a fan of cacophonous soundscapes, gnarly screams, and the ability to make your friends and relatives contort their face and ask “what the fuck is this,” then Shards In The Wire is for you. It’s layers upon layers of sound in an experimental, sense that’s equal parts primal and unnerving.
Racetraitor
Creation And The Timeless Order Of Things (Good Fight Music)
Experimental hardcore outfit Racetraitor has got something to say and the keepers of the status quo ain’t gonna like it. Based out of Chicago, this band wants nothing more than to tackle the regime and tear down societal oppressors that rule us all. From highlighting their Iranian roots to recruiting Refused‘s Dennis Lyxzén for a scorching sonic takedown, this album is perfect if you’re pissed the fuck off.
Sadus
The Shadow Inside (Nuclear Blast)
It’s been 16 years since the East Bay thrash outfit Sadus has released a full-length record, but here we are with the release of The Shadow Inside. After reuniting back in 2017, the band has been putting this record together when life permits. And what came out was an uncompromising slab of music that should break some necks along the way.
