Type O Negative Announce Special Bloody Kisses Graphic Novel for Its 30th Anniversary
Three decades ago, Type O Negative released an iconic record in Bloody Kisses and we’re still talking about it all these years later. To celebrate that milestone, the band teamed up with Z2 to release a special graphic novel that collects art and stories from special contributors from the rock and metal scene.
The record was the third from the band and originally came out in 1993, where it went on to help define the future of goth rock.
Collected within its covers is 11 stories based on each track on the album, as well as the song “Suspended In Dusk” from the 1994 “Suspended In Dusk” alternative version. Each of those stories is written by notable names in metal including Black Veil Brides vocalist Andy Biersack, Butcher Babies vocalist Carla Harvey, Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante, Lacuna Coil vocalist Cristina Scabbia, ex-Fear Factory vocalist Burton C. Bell, Life Of Agony bassist Alan Robert, and more.
Robert, who’d spent a lot of time around Type O Negative around the time Bloody Kisses was being recorded, said he was happy to have been involved in the project.
“I have a long history with the Type O guys since we all grew up in the same neighborhood in Brooklyn. Josh Silver produced Life Of Agony initial demos in his home studio and our debut album River Runs Red at Systems Two — the same place Type O recorded Bloody Kisses. We did several tours together in the early ’90s and shared a ton of laughs, so it was truly an honor to be a part of bringing this book to life. I know their music inside and out.”
Once released, Type O Negative: Bloody Kisses will be available in both a hardcover edition, as well as a deluxe edition that includes the aforementioned hardcover, a double picture disc version of the album on vinyl, and even more stuff — though the deluxe edition will be limited to 666 units.
All of this is to say that it’s obvious Type O Negative still have a massive amount of influence on the modern metal and goth scenes.
