Darkest Hour Announce New Album Perpetual | Terminal, Drop Title Track
Just one day out from their tour with Exodus and Fit For An Autopsy, Washington D.C.-based metalcore quintet Darkest Hour announced they’re planning to release their 10th studio album this coming February via MNRK Heavy.
Titled Perpetual | Terminal, the new album will feature 11 new tracks for newcomers and hardcore fans alike to sink their teeth into. To mark the occasion, the band by releasing their first new song in six years with the album’s title track, along with an accompanying music video that you can watch below.
As you can probably gather from the track, Darkest Hour are back on their bullshit. It’s aggressive, fast, and makes you want to open up a pit. And just as its aggression builds, there comes a really cool melodic part that doesn’t compromise John Henry’s vocals.
According to the band, they chose the album’s title track as its first single because it best reflected Perpetual | Terminal in its entirety.
“This is a whole Darkest Hour album in one song. It felt like the perfect album opener, eventually became the title track, and therefore is the perfect place to start as we present this new album to the world. Lyrically, it touches on all of the themes of the record — an album centered around the duality of survival and rebirth. Or, you could just say, some new music from old friends who just won’t ever give up.”
As for the album’s overall theme, guitarist Mike Schleibaum said this new slate of songs is about the dichotomy of life and death.
“The record’s theme centers around the duality of survival while embracing rebirth. We keep killing parts of ourselves to make new parts and survive. The story of the record is the story of the band. We’re still here, and we’re giving the world a body of work that’s representative of our music today. We’ve realized relationships, tours, good times, everything that seems to give life meaning, is terminal — and will inevitably end. Nevertheless, we’re 46-year-old dudes who love this music enough to put up with the trials and tribulations of being artists in a touring band.”
Perpetual | Terminal will be released on February 23 via MNRK Heavy, though you can preorder your copy today.
Oh and don’t forget that Darkest Hour will embark on their aforementioned tour with Exodus and Fit For An Autopsy tomorrow. the full list of tour dates can be found below.
