Nytt Land Release New Video for “Johem Ar”
Nytt Land just dropped a new video for their song “Johem Ar,” one of the tracks from their recently released album.
Their latest record, Torem, came out October 6 via Napalm Records. The delightfully shamanic and weird folk band say about the new video:
“For us, the song ‘Johem Ar’ became a continuation of the song ‘U-Gra,’ our anthem of Siberia from the previous album, Ritual. If ‘U-Gra’ is about winter Siberia, with its endless forests and frozen tundra, then ‘Johem Ar’ is about steppe Siberia. About that Siberia, which became a path and home for many nomadic peoples who walked to endless far, following their star.”
While it’s an obvious comparison on the surface to set Nytt Land alongside bands like Heilung and Wardruna, they are unique in that they hail from Siberia and thus have some really unique shamanic influences in their music and stage presence.
Their latest record, Torem, features the couple that front the band, Natasha “Baba Yaga” and Anatoly Pakhalenko as they get weird with vocals and instrumentation. The record is sung in the Siberian tribal language Khanty and Old Norse, and it’s downright haunting, as well as extremely heavy in its own way.
