Mick Mars Recorded Songs with John Corabi, But They Won’t Be on His Solo Album
Yesterday marked a major turning point in the Mick Mars/Mötley Crüe drama that’s been unfolding for months now, as the former guitarist announced that not only was he not done writing new music, but he’s also got his first solo album coming early next year titled The Other Side of Mars. There had been rumblings of a Mick Mars solo album for a while, with fans speculating that he’d get ex-Mötley Crüe vocalist John Corabi behind the mic.
As we know now following the album’s official announcement yesterday, that didn’t come to pass, as Jacob Bunton is handling most of the album’s vocals, while Brion Gamboa will handle two of the album’s 12 songs. It turns out, however, that Corabi was actually involved at one point.
During his visit to SiriusXM’s “Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk” yesterday (as transcribed by Blabbermouth), Mars revealed that Corabi recorded some songs with him back in 2016. Those tracks were initially going to be included in the solo album, but things didn’t work out.
“I felt the songs were just a little — not strong enough. And there is a certain person that kind of interfered with that. And I’m not gonna say his name, but he kind of like messed some things up. The songs were wrong, parts in there that shouldn’t be there and blah blah blah. It isn’t a long story, but it was kind of like, ‘That ain’t gonna fly.’ So I shelved it.”
When asked to elaborate on the fact that someone got in the way of Corabi’s involvement, Mars said he was “duped.”
“[I was] kind of duped — that’s all I have to say — by a third party. And that’s it. That’s all. I got rid of him and went on and searched for other people. I mean, look, I found [producer] Michael Wagener after a while. He lives just down the street.”
Sounds to me like it might have been a producer that ultimately got in the way? Who knows?
The Other Side Of Mars was produced by Wagener, who both engineered and mixed Mötley Crüe’s 1981 debut Too Fast For Love. The album will be available on February 23, 2024, but you can preorder your copy today.
