Frozen Soul Apparently Encouraged Some Nerds to Play Magic: The Gathering in the Pit

Over the weekend, a weird scene made the rounds on metal news outlets that showed a buncha nerds sitting down for a game of Richard Garfield’s seminal card game, Magic: The Gathering during the Frozen Soul show this past Saturday. It’s an odd sight and further cements my hypothesis that every single metal head on the planet is a nerd. Doesn’t matter if they’re into Lord of the Rings, guitar tech, or a now 30 year old card game.

Yet what took place during the second ‘Wrecking Ball Metal Madness’ show at The Echo Lounge & Music Hall in Dallas, Texas wasn’t as entirely impromptu as initial reports made it seem. According to the band’s official Twitter account, someone flashed their Magic deck at the band during their set, which prompted vocalist Chad Green (I’m assuming that’s who’s running their Twitter profile) to get someone else to play that person in the pit during their set.

Apparently the game lasted about three or four songs, but honestly, there are more questions here than answers. Did the other player have their own deck or did the person that caught the band’s attention bring two? If it’s the latter, then how did the other player deal with the fact that their opponent knew what both decks were capable of, which everyone knows is a clear advantage in both standard and commander formats? What were they using as life counters?!

NERDY METALHEADS NEED TO KNOW.
