Kalandra’s Video for “Bardaginn” Shows a Folksy, Catchy Post-Apocalypse
With a sound that’s as deep and ethereal as the Norwegian wilderness, Kalandra’s newly released single “Bardaginn” is a catchy tune that leverages Old Norse as its lyrical backbone. Released along with an accompanying music video filmed by Ragnarok Film, the entire package is an engrossing, medieval take on the post-apocalypse.
According to the band, vocalist Katrine Stenbekk worked side by side with Norwegian lyricist and language consultant Alexander Lykke in order to write the entire song in Old Norse. Together with the rest of the band, you get a catchy and folksy song that sounds unlike anything the band’s ever done before.
“‘Bardaginn’; is the name of Kalandra’s newest single, meaning ‘fight’ or ‘battle’, whether it’s experienced from within or out in the real world. The meaninglessness of it all, yet the importance for humans to find meaning in fighting for something, or someone…
“For our next single release we all knew it was important for us to try and challenge ourselves creatively, and yet still somehow manage to keep that light playfulness in the creative process, where absolutely anything was allowed. Although it at times seemed like an impossible task to piece together, it feels as if we’ve managed to really pull out the best in every member of the band, and really showcase what we’re made of, both individually and as a team.
“‘Bardaginn’ is fun, but also bloody serious. We’re very proud of each other and what we’ve made, and we can’t wait to play it live.”
