Get Ready for More Metal Comedy in 2024 with Heavy Trip II

It’s real easy to take this thing we love called metal super seriously, so when we get a good comedy about metal, it’s always a treat. As such, fans of the Finnish metal comedy Heavy Trip should get stoked, as it turns out we’re getting a sequel aptly named Heavy Trip II some time next year.

The delightfully wacky hesher flick, written and directed by Juuso Laatio and Jukka Vidgren, will see the band Impaled Rektum ending up in jail and unable to perform at Wacken Open Air. However, they’re inspired to break out by family emergency and the need to take care of business at home.

If this sounds bizarre, you’re right—but this is European metalhead comedy; normal rules don’t apply. The original Heavy Trip features the band trying to land a gig and includes a stolen van, a corpse, a coffin, a drummer from a mental hospital, and a whole lot of other weirdness.

The movie was funded by sources from multiple countries including Finland, Lithuania, Germany, Belgium, and Bulgaria. While director Jukka Vidgren says there was a slightly bigger budget for the film, it didn’t stretch too far due to inflation.

The movie will also feature music from the band Year Of The Goat, as they are penning the original score. The sequel is set to be released in 2024, but no date for release or U.S. / North American distributor has yet been tapped.
