Kittie Ain’t Breaking Out the JNCOs Now That They’re Back
After a triumphant return last year, Kittie are back with some big plans that should please old fans and hopefully wow a new generation all together. It’s a push from an older act that’s looking to revitalize their place in the spotlight.
While speaking with the She’s With The Band podcast via Knotfest, drummer Mercedes Lander and frontwoman Morgan Lander talked about their plans for the future of the band, including an apparent follow-up to 2011’s I’ve Failed You.
Riding a recent wave of popularity that’s fueled both by nu metal’s resurgence and their successful return to the stage, Kittie face a new landscape where a new generation of Gen Z fans are even more supportive of gender-diverse lineups. For Mercedes, the prospect of getting to write new music is an exciting one for her.
“I’m gonna say that we are just really stoked to write 1,200 percent bangers. I think that’s just where we’re at now. We want people to feel good. We want people to feel what we’re feeling. I feel like bangers; that’s what we’re good at…
“I think people are gonna be really excited when they find out what we’ve been up to.”
Looking forward to the new music, Morgan said the band is pulling from their past while also drawing from all the lessons they’ve learned over the years.
“I think marrying some of the ideas, ’cause I don’t think we’re ever going to put our JNCOs [jeans] on again. But, yeah, the idea of marrying some of those ideas — like who we are now with the ideas of who maybe we used to be and kind of being able to meet somewhere in the middle, but in a way that will just create something brand new again. I’m excited for it to be unleashed upon the world.”
“Things are happening; wheels are in motion, but we are just not able to announce anything yet,” she adds about whether the band is working on an album. “But I guess the blanket statement could be, like, people who are excited about Kittie will continue to be excited for the next year. Things are happening. And I think it will be a really good year for us.”
Kittie originally got back together in 2022 when the sisters joined forces one again with Fallon Bowman on guitar and Tanya Candler on bass. Before that, they had not played a show since their last performance in 2017. They started by celebrating the 22nd anniversary of their classic album, Spit, and now, it sounds like there will be more music to come.
