Sh*t That Comes Out Today – October 20, 2023
We don’t care what shirt you want to wear, as long as you check out this week’s new releases.
Cirith Ungol
Dark Parade (Metal Blade Records)
They may be calling it quits with the live performances, but you’ve got next year to catch them live and you have a brand new album out today titled Dark Parade to enjoy in perpetuity. So if you’ve been in the need of some super heavy, epic doom metal, definitely check this one out.
Hippie Death Cult
Helichrysum (Heavy Psyche Sounds)
What’s this? Another stoner/doom band hailing from the Pacific Northwest featured in our weekly new release list? Why yes, that’s exactly what Hippie Death Cult is doing on this list with their third studio release, Helichrysum. Stuffed fupp of that classic 70s doom sound popularized by the immortal Black Sabbath, this new age psych metal act has a new lead vocalist in bassist Laura Phillips and her delivery simply fucking rocks.
Myrkur
Spine (Relapse Records)
It’s been roughly three years since the release of their last studio effort, Folkesange, but American atmospheric black metal act Myrkur is back with Spine. The brainchild of Amalie Brunn, this new record keeps up the band’s sound as a folky black metal act that’s heading down a “new course for the enigmatic composer, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist.” From what I’ve heard, this seems perfect for these chilly autumn months.
The Callous Daoboys
God Smiles Upon The Callous Daoboys EP (Record)
I see new music from The Callous Daoboys, I highlight new music from The Callous Daoboys. I personally think they’re one of the most entertaining, energetic, and unique sounding acts out there today. Following up their full-length bombshell Celebrity Therapy with a simple EP might seem like a risky move to some since it’ll leave people (me) wanting more, but the three songs on God Smiles Upon The Callous Daoboys fucking slap. There’s no other way to put it.
War Curse
Confession (Metal Blade Records/Blacklight Media)
Fans of grovvy heavy metal will enjoy the shit out of this one. War Curse’s third full-length studio effort Confession follows in the footsteps of giants, with its thunderous rhythm section, chuggy guitars, and vocals that drip with purpose and conviction.
