Allegaeon’s New Single “Inhumation” Features Original Vocalist Ezra Haynes
Earlier today, technical/melodic death metal stalwarts Allegaeon burst back onto the scene in a big way with the release of their latest single, “Inhumation.” It’s the first of two new tracks set for release by the band and the first studio release to officially feature the band’s original vocalist Ezra Haynes since the 2014 album Elements Of The Infinite.
The last year or so has been … eventful for Allegaeon. Last February, the band released their sixth studio effort Damnum, only for their vocalist Riley McShane to leave the band that August. With tour dates coming up, they managed to secure their previous vocalist Ezra Haynes last September to rejoin the band, albeit at a temporary capacity.
With today’s release, it turns out that Haynes has officially rejoined the band as a permanent member. With “Inhumation” his official welcome back into the band, Haynes said both new tracks showed a bit of growth within the band.
“Both of the songs are really aggressive, far more than anything I’ve done with the boys. Since my departure in 2015, Allegaeon had grown so much musically as well as introduced a more ‘personal’ style of lyrics to the fold. This was a very VERY cool change to me.”
The new track was also important since it was also the band’s first release since resigning with Metal Blade Records.
“We wanted to do a callback to the first album when we signed to Metal Blade, 2010’s Fragments of Form and Function. For the second song on that, ‘The Renewal,’ I built a layered vocal section that I thought was really neat then. I wanted to somehow incorporate something similar, but bigger and evolved, into ‘Inhumation’, considering the song is so damn massive. It’s without a doubt the most aggressive thing I’ve ever written. Also, now that Allegaeon is a group with three gents on vocals, I wanted to take advantage of that as well as showcase Michael’s insane vocal talent.”
Speaking on both “Inhumation” and the as of yet unreleased track “Iridescent,” bassist Brandon Michael said the band is in a new direction that fans will appreciate.
“It feels like Allegaeon is becoming the band we were always meant to be. The chemistry is incredible. Overall, we’re in a very good creative space together.”
