Green Lung Unleash Their ‘Heaviest Song to Date’ in “One For Sorrow”
British stoner doom act Green Lung are out here calling “One For Sorrow,” the latest single off their upcoming album This Heathen Land, their “heaviest song to date” — and that’s saying something.
Released earlier today, “One For Sorrow” is a slow, plodding track that leans heavily on Gothic-sounding synths before taking a turn with a heavy riff that’s impossible not to nod along to. The lyrics are dark and depressive, giving it a foggy gloom that honestly fits right in with the October spooky season.
Speaking about the single, vocalist Tom Templar said the song’s themes borrow from an old 18th century nursery rhyme, as most good horror shit does these days.
“This was the last song we wrote for the album, and it’s the only song on This Heathen Land that doesn’t relate to a physical landscape of Britain, but instead the skies above. It features some of my most personal lyrics yet, but it’s still steeped in folklore – the variation of the popular ‘One for Sorrow’ rhyme at the end dates back to 1780, and is wonderfully creepy. We were delighted to welcome back Julian Firth to play the ornithologist in the music video, along with Blackthorn Ritualistic Folk, who created some incredible costumes and a truly uncanny magpie creature.”
