Extol Dropped Two New Songs After a Decade Away

0

For the first time in roughly ten years, Norwegian Christian death metal act Extol are back with not one, but two new tracks, titled “Labyrinth of Ill” and “Exigency.” And to add even more news to the mix, they’ve reunited with guitarist Christer Espevoll.

The news came earlier today, as the pair of new songs began hitting all the major streaming services. This confirms the rumors that began swirling regarding new tunes back in August. In a bid to get ahead of even more potential rumors, the band announced that fans should expect even more new music in the near future as they work on getting live dates squared away.

As far as the two singles go, guitarist Ole Børud said they perfectly represented the band’s direction in 2023.

“The new songs have that perfect blend of hooks, quirks, and melody, coupled with the distinct flavor of a lineup featuring David, Peter, Christer, and yours truly. And top that off with an excellent mix from Jens Bogren. I’m very happy.”

As for the returning Espevoll, getting to record the two tracks and reunite with his old bandmates helped him quickly get back into the swing of things.

“The way we wrote ‘Labyrinth of Ill’ took me back to the good old days. It has the distinct impression of all members baked into a recognizably unique Extol cookie: Brutal riffing and tight, yet floating rhythmic section, meeting pleasant melodies, and atypical metal harmonies, topped off with a slightly outside guitar solo that leaves you wanting more, all in classic Extol fashion. I can’t wait to continue this new Extol chapter!”
