Ex-Desolated Bassist Jake Marlowe Confirmed Killed in Hamas Attack
We’re sad to report that after learning that ex-Desolated bassist Jake Marlowe was missing following the deadly attacks on Israel last weekend, it’s since been confirmed that he is among the dead. He was working at the Supernova music festival near Kibbutz Re’im near the Gaza border at the time of the attack. He was 26 years old.
As previously reported, Marlowe was working as a security guard for the festival when Hamas’ deadly incursion across the Gaza-Israeli border began. The attack took place during the Jewish holiday Simchat Torah, and so far, more than 250 have been found dead at the music festival. More than 100 were held captive.
His death was confirmed by the Israeli Embassy in London on Wednesday afternoon. His parents, Lisa and Michael Marlowe, released the following statement:
“From Lisa and Michael Marlowe,
“We are heartbroken to have to inform you the crushing news that our son Jake has been confirmed dead in Southern Israel.
“Repatriation plans are being put in to place, more information will follow.
“Please respect our privacy at this most devastating time.
Sadly, this Marlowe’s death is just one of many in the region, as innocent civilians on both sides of the conflict continue to bear the brunt of the violence.
Marlowe initially came to Israel in 2021 to get in touch with his Jewish roots. In an interview with inews.co.uk, Marlowe’s friend Daniel Aboudy elaborated on the musician’s decision to migrate to Israel.
“[Marlowe] felt that it was his duty to trace back to his roots and find his home that he felt he truly belonged to in Israel. He also had a desire to enlist in the army at one point but unfortunately wasn’t given the opportunity to do so. He was very determined to fight for what we believed in as the Jewish people.”
We want to extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to Marlowe’s friends, family, and former bandmates during this impossibly difficult time.
