Myrkur Channels Norse Legends in “Valkyriernes Sang”
Atmospheric black metal act Myrkur dropped yet another new single from their upcoming album Spine, with an even more keen eye honed on the mythology of leader Amalie Brunn’s Scandinavian homeland.
“I wrote this song after diving into different interpretations of the old Norse sagas again, particularly Njál’s saga and the poems about the valkyrier – ‘Spydsangen’ (‘The Song of the Spear’). I have always been fascinated with the figures of Valkyrier in Norse mythology, their power, their role in the battles, in Valhalla and with Odin.”
As previously reported, Brunn said the upcoming album shows the band taking a “new course for the enigmatic composer, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist.” Now as a mother, the artist is apparently using the new album to “[give] rise to a new range of emotional and sonic contours.”
Spine is due for release on October 20 via Relapse Records, but you can preorder or pre-save your copy today.
