Yob to Close Out the Year with Two Doom-Filled Gigs

0

When it comes to American regions most fitted for the slow burn aesthetics of doom metal, it’s hard to consider anything other than the Pacific northwest. Foggy forest scenes, massive mountains looming in the distance, rain-drenched vistas with the unyielding crush of untouched forests threatening your very existence… You just want to sit back and let the undeterred march of time slowly turn you into a pile of moss.

As such, it only makes sense that doom masters Yob will be ending 2023 in their Pacific northwestern hometown of Eugene, Oregon with a pair of shows. Slated for early December, they’ll be supported by Will Haven and Rhododendron on December 8 at WOW Hall and Ninth Moon Black on December 9 at John Henry’s.

While it’s a bummer for the rest of the country to have to schlep all the way up to Oregon for a Yob show or two, that doesn’t mean that’s the only way you can appreciate the band’s sound. Earlier this year they re-issued their 2002 debut album Elaborations Of Carbon, which is absolutely worth a listen.

This year also proved to be an important one for the band, as they finally did the metal band equivalent of putting a ring on it and formally naming Dave French, their long-time fill-in at drums after replacing Travis Foster, as their new full-time man behind the kit. French had been holding it down back there during all their live performances over the last year or so.

So yeah, if you’re able to make it out to Oregon — or already live in the area — you can check Yob out at the following dates:

12/8 WOW Hall (w/ Will Haven & Rhododendron)
12/9 John Henry’s (w/ Ninth Moon Black)

Here’s to a bigger and better 2024 with hopefully some new music from Yob.
