Gaerea Literally Waterboarded a Dude for Their “Dormant” Music Video
How far would you go to portray your art exactly the way you wanted? Would you put yourself in a situation where it felt like you were drowning for nearly eight minutes straight? Because that’s what Portuguese black metal outfit Gaerea did for their latest music video — I mean “torture art experiment” — for the track “Dormant.”
Featured only on the bonus edition of their last album Mirage, “Dormant” is now available to everyone just as the band is getting ready to kick off its North American tour with Blackbraid. So I guess it only seemed high time for those Pork Chops to subject someone, ostensibly one of their own, to an unbearable amount of discomfort for the song.
Speaking about the video in question, the band said the newly released video fit the overarching tone of the track.
“Complementing the song’s aural journey, the video art installation accompanying ‘Dormant’ delves into the anguish and struggle for survival. The visuals depict the main character, trapped and enclosed in a tormenting world, as water relentlessly pours over his body, simulating drowning and suffocation. This immersive and visceral experience offers a harrowing glimpse into the protagonist’s fight for life, evoking a range of emotions and challenging viewers to confront their own mortality.”
I don’t know about you, but I would have broken about 15 seconds into that shit. If you ever want to get information out of me, just show me a hood and a glass of water and I’ll spill the beans. How someone got through that whole thing is mind-boggling to me.
