Ronnie Radke Inserts Himself Into the Thy Art Is Murder Drama, Demands Boycott
There are certain truths in life that you just can’t deny: the sky is blue, the sun will rise tomorrow, and baby — Falling In Reverse frontman Ronnie Radke will insert himself into some drama. That’s exactly what’s going on over on social media following the batshit crazy stuff that’s going down between Thy Art Is Murder and now ex-vocalist Chris “CJ” McMahon.
Having learned that one of the reasons the band kicked McMahon out was partially over his anti-trans comments, Radke went off, demanding that people boycott Thy Art Is Murder and their new album Godlike, which came out today. He also offered to give McMahon $20,000 to counter the supposed “spineless cowards bending to this shit and ruining peoples lives.”
I mean, just look at these reactions and then realize this guy is going off harder than McMahon has (yet).
How is it that when a band decides that they don’t want to associate with assholes, they’re “not metal”? Did he forget that plenty of metalheads enjoy dark shit but are super nice? Look at Corpsegrinder, man. Why would anyone stand up for someone that’s allegedly threatening your livelihood if you don’t go along with what they want? That doesn’t make any sense.
Maybe seeing Radke react the way he did shouldn’t be a surprise, since we’re talking about the guy who’s also spouted off some harmful anti-trans garbage in the past and demanded reparations because he “[identifies] as a black man.” Sure, those tweets may have been a joke in his eyes, but someone with Radke’s platform should know that kind of thing can embolden some terminally online psycho to go on and hurt somebody.
Personally, I think it took a lot of guts for Thy Art Is Murder to do what they did. Think about it — the vocalist of a band is literally their voice; the recognizable face set to music. By cutting McMahon out of the band on the day a new album is released, they ran the risk of alienating their fans and hurting record sales. And all on their first totally independent release, meaning they don’t have the support of a major label.
Oh and McMahon’s going to be just fine. If Tim Lambesis can land on his feet after literally trying to have his wife killed, I’m sure the Aussie vocalist will be okay. No need to think the guy’s life is “ruined” just yet.
