Chris Barnes Says the New Six Feet Under Record Contains the “Most Intense Songs” of the Band’s Career
Brace yourself: new Six Feet Under tunes might be coming sooner rather than later and, according to singer Chris Barnes, they’re going to be special. The singer took to social media to provide an album update, saying:
“Probably won’t be able to sleep tonight .. I start recording vocals for the New SIX FEET UNDER Album tomorrow!!! Some of the most intense songs we’ve done. Super excited for this one!”
Previously, Barnes reported that bassist Jeff Hughell and guitarist Marco Pitruzzella had already recorded their parts and that guitarist Jack Owen would soon do his.
Of course, this is a Six Feet Under album in 2023, so it’s probably best to temper your expectations because the results are not going to be good. They never are. Last time we checked in with Barnes, he was talking about his favorite old-school death metal records, including Butchered at Birth, an album he performed on as a member of Cannibal Corpse at the time, because why wouldn’t he include that?
“I’m gonna have to say Possessed’s ‘Seven Churches,’ I’m gonna go with Death’s ‘Leprosy’ and ‘Spiritual Healing,’ and ‘Scream Bloody Gore’ – I’m gonna have to wrap those three up into [one] because you know, Chuck was a good friend of mine and I was a huge fan of Death early on. Rest in peace Chuck. I’m gonna go Obituary ‘Slowly We Rot.; A huge album.
“All three of those bands are a similar type of death metal. I mean of course Possessed are the kings of death metal. They pretty much started it all. Jeff Becerra, fucking awesome guy. So yeah, that’s that’s where I come from, man. I really loved all those albums.
“If I have to throw a fourth one in there, I’m gonna have to say ‘Butchered At Birth.’ You know, pat myself on the back. That was a huge album in death metal as far as our kind of twist on the whole thing. I think it influenced a lot of people just as Possessed influenced a lot of bands to move in a certain direction.”
I’m sure we’ll have more info about the new Six Feet Under when it gets dropped on the unsuspecting masses.
