Members of Spiritbox, Architects, Converge and More Donate to Year Of The Knife Car Crash Fund
Wednesday night, June 28, hardcore rising stars Year of the Knife tweeted that they had been in a “REALLY bad accident” but said that everyone was still alive. Guitarist Brandon Watkins’ father later posted an update to social media and said that vocalist Madi Watkins was in critical condition following a car accident.
“Family and friends. Our son (Brandon), our daughter in law (Madi) and their two ‘Year Of The Knife’ bandmates, Andy and Aaron, were touring out west and were involved in a terrible accident after a show in Salt Lake City, UT. It’s been a heart-wrenching time for all families involved.
“Brandon was concussed, but is miraculously OK. Aaron and Andy both sustained broken legs and other trauma…but are stable now and recovering. Madi is in critical condition with major trauma. Please keep her in your prayers.”
In the time since, a GoFundMe was established with a $100,000 goal to go toward medical expenses, missed work and the general things you need to rebuild your life after such a traumatic occurrence. In less than 20 hours, the GoFundMe surpassed its goal and is currently over $120,000. Sizable donations have come in from various artists in the metal scene, including Architects, who donated $5,000, Vein & Fleshwater, Counterparts‘ Brendan Murphy, Spiritbox‘s Courtney LaPlante and Kurt Ballou, among others.
The band pages have not posted an official update at the time of publication but band member Andrew Kisielewski posted an update on his Instagram story, saying, “We’re all gonna make it out of this ok. I love you all.”
Kisielewski’s post is the only update we have to go off of at this time and we do not know the specifics surrounding any member’s medical situation. MetalSucks continues to wish the best for Madi Watkins and the rest of Year of the Knife as they recover.
