Brooklyn’s Legendary Saint Vitus Bar is Being Memorialized in a Special New Book
All throughout the world, there are locations that any metal head can instantly walk into and feel at home. Venues, certain locales, and bars can be the perfect place for a metal fan to let their hair down and chill with some like-minded people. For the folks in New York City and the surrounding area, one of the hottest spots deserving of a heavy metal pilgrimage is the legendary Saint Vitus Bar.
With a decade now in its rear view mirror and a slew of amazing shows having taken place under its roof, the Saint Vitus Bar is commemorating all of the memories with a special book titled The First 10 Years: An Oral and Visual History. Featuring never-before-seen shit like backstage photos and first-person anecdotes from musicians, fans, and promoters, the book is currently seeking funding through both Kickstarter and a separate pre-order window.
Some of the artists featured in the book’s 346 pages include: Nirvana, Descendents, Chelsea Wolfe, Anthrax, Deafheaven, Megadeth, Johnny Rotten, Tony Iommi, Trevor Strnad (Black Dahlia Murder), Walter Schreifels (Quicksand), Vinnie Stigma (Agnostic Front), Mike IX (Eyehategod), Frank Turner, Laura Jane Grace, actress Jessica Pimentel, author Chuck Klosterman and more.
The Kickstarter campaign is seeking to raise $30,000 to produce the book and after only a few hours it’s raised nearly $24,000 from 222 backers. With 29 days left in the campaign, it’s very likely that the book’s limited run of 1,000 copies could get completely snatched up before it’s even printed and released on October 31.
So if you’re interested in getting your hands on a copy, be sure to hit up the Kickstarter page or go preorder one for yourself.
