Bruce Dickinson Doesn’t Want Iron Maiden in the Rock Hall Yet Because “We’re Not Dead Yet”
We’re starting to get the feeling that Iron Maiden‘s Bruce Dickinson may be over the whole “always the bridesmaid, never the bride” feeling they’ve had lately regarding the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Despite being eligible since 2005 and only recently having been nominated twice, Iron Maiden has yet to pass the threshold needed to be inducted. And according to the iconic vocalist, he wants it to stay that way — at least until everyone in the band is dead and gone.
Dickinson made the distinction while speaking with The Telegraph, simply stating that they shouldn’t go in “because we’re not dead yet!”
Metal artists have long been ignored by the Rock Hall. Only big names like Black Sabbath, Metallica, and most recently Judas Priest have made the cut. Meanwhile, other insanely influential metal bands like Motörhead, Slayer, and yes — Iron Maiden — have been completely snubbed.
Hell, it was even a hard road for Judas Priest to get in, just barely missing out multiple times before finally getting in last year.
Dickinson suggested that a major reason why metal seems to get ignored by the Rock Hall is because of the genre’s “unsafe” nature.
“Some people feel almost actively threatened by metal. Not by the nature of the music. But by the fact that it doesn’t conform to their worldview of what pop music should be, which is: pop music is disposable, darling. Well: we don’t make disposable pop music.”
Iron Maiden are currently out on tour running the European summer festival circuit in support of their latest album Senjutsu. You can check out the full list of dates below.
