King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard Debuted a New Song “Witchcraft” While in Drag
It’s Pride Month and while far-right extremists are maulding over that fact, a number of Republican-led states around the country are taking strict stances against drag shows, trans rights, and anything even remotely in the same vein. Regardless, celebrations are still taking place and giving people a chance to celebrate and recognize the fact that love is love no matter what.
One such celebration was King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard‘s Pride Night performance this past Saturday. They were in the midst of a four-night residency at Tennessee’s The Caverns Amphitheater when the band’s members came out dressed in drag. While it wouldn’t be hard to consider such an act a form of protest, Spin reported that guitarist Joey Walker told the crowd that their stage attire honestly had no ulterior motive whatsoever. *wink*
“This ain’t no protest, baby. This is a celebration!”
Later on in the show, keyboardist Ambrose Kenny-Smith told the audience to try to remember this performance for as long as they can, since it was “the first and last time you’ll ever see me onstage in shorts.”
While them being in drag on stage in a state that has a law against drag shows in public places on the books (even though it’s been deemed unconstitutional by a federal judge) would be news enough, the group of Aussies also managed to take time to perform a new song off their upcoming album, PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation. Just like the first single, it’s a thrashy, stoner metal tune that kicks all kinds of ass. Which is to be expected from the band’s second take on a thrash album.
PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation will release on June 16. You can check out the full track list below, as well as the run of tour dates they have planned.
