This Live Action Diablo IV Trailer is Metal as Fu*k
Barbarians, wizards, necromancers, demons… they’re all pretty fucking metal if done right. Hell, those dark fantasy elements are the backbone of tons of bands these days. So it only makes sense that when Activision-Blizzard hired Oscar-winner director Chloé Zhao and Kiku Ohe to co-direct a live-action trailer for the upcoming release of Diablo IV, you bet your ass I’m going to pay attention.
For those that aren’t aware, Zhao directed Nomadland and Marvel’s The Eternals, so they got a big name to do a minute-long trailer for a blockbuster video game.
As you can see in the clip below, the trailer shows all sorts of bad shit happening to normal people as Hell once again finds its way back onto Earth’s surface to terrorize humanity. Naturally, that’s the cue for heroes representing the game’s five starting classes (barbarian, druid, rogue, sorceress, necromancer) to show up and kick some demon ass. The trailer ultimately ends with a live-action appearance of the game’s big bad, Lilith.
Just the costume design alone for Lilith is impressive, but to see some of the game’s horrors come to life on screen (yes, I know CGI exists…) is super cool. As someone that spent hundreds, if not thousands of hours playing Diablo II on my family’s old PC growing up, this shit is way too exciting to not share with you guys.
Personally, I can’t wait to spend hours fighting back the hordes of Hell with my buddies when Diablo IV comes out for PlayStation 4 PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows on June 6.
