Blackbraid’s “The Spirit Returns” Video Takes His Unique Take on Black Metal to the Desert
Native American black metal firebrand Blackbraid has been tearing shit up since his debut self-titled album came out last year. Now, with a sophomore album set for release this July and a slew of tour dates currently underway with the Decibel Magazine Tour, the mighty Sgah’gahsowáh is back here again with a killer track and accompanying music video for “The Spirit Returns.”
And while most black metal focuses on snow swept fjords, or in Blackbraid’s case — the idyllic Adirondack mountains — this new video trades the deciduous forests with the dry heat of the desert. It’s a hell of a clip, full of sweeping vistas while Sgah’gahsowáh and a backing band rip through the new single.
As for the song itself, it’s yet another powerful piece of black metal that showcases Blackbraid’s strength within the genre. Though you can hear it in the music video posted below, it won’t be available on streaming services until midnight local time tomorrow, May 20.
“The Spirit Returns” is the second single from the upcoming Blackbraid II album. The first single, “Moss Covered Bones on the Altar of the Moon” was an absolute shredder when it was released a couple weeks ago.
Blackbraid II is slated for release on July 7, though you can sign up for email notifications of when you can preorder or presave the album through the Blackbraid Official Merch Store.
