The Title of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s Newly Announced Album is Ridiculous
You know, after 12 years of madcap album releases and a constantly shifting musical style, nothing should really surprise me when it comes to King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, but it’s 2023 and here we are yet again. After releasing five albums last year, the Australian rock band announced that they’re putting out their 24th album later this year and the title’s a doozy:
PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation
Yes, that’s the album title and it’s not me just typing out a stroke-induced word salad. The band announced their upcoming album in an Instagram post yesterday. As is kinda typical for King Gizzard albums, the cover has some weird, off-kilter imagery that they described as “a vivid, fiery painting of a lizard like monster in an industrial, apocalyptic landscape.”
According to the band, the album’s preorder will go live on May 16 at 9 a.m. EST.
Along with the new album announcement, the band will be touring North America later this month with Boston Calling. The band will have multi-show residences at Tennesee’s The Caverns, Colorado’s Red Rocks, and Chicago’s The Salt Shed, among other locations.
