Metallica to Broadcast Two Concerts to Theaters This Summer
Wish you could afford a two-night pass to one of Metallica‘s upcoming tour dates but can’t seem to scrounge up the dough? Fret not, little hesher — the boys from the Bay Area announced during the world’s first 72 Seasons listening party down in New Zealand that the Arlington, Texas shows on Friday, August 18 and Sunday, August 20 will be simultaneously broadcast live to movie theaters around the world.
Dubbed the “Metallica: M72 World Tour Live From Arlington, TX – A Two Night Event,” fans all over the world will be metaphorically transported to the best seats in the house at Arlington, Texas’ AT&T Stadium. Just like the rest of the tour, each night will feature a completely different setlist spanning the band’s extensive career. Not a single song will be played twice, which means fans will get to hear 30 different tunes from the biggest of the Big Four.
According to the press release announcing this event, the concert will be shot with a multi-camera set up, resulting in the best views no matter where in the world they’re watching. It should feel like you’re right up there in the middle of it all.
The broadcast will be handled by Trafalgar Releasing, the same company that’s handling tonight’s 72 Seasons listening parties. The company’s SVP Programming and Content Acquisitions, Kymberli Frueh, said the broadcast was an exciting opportunity for fans in areas that may not have access to a Metallica concert to experience the show live.
“We feel like we are a part of the Metallica family now that we are doing our third release together (Metallica: M72 World Tour Live From Arlington, TX – A Two Night Event, 72 Seasons Global Premiere, and S&M²). Since Metallica is touring in very limited markets this year, we are so happy that we can extend that tour into cinemas across the globe. The cinemas create a virtual tour stop for fans in thousands of locations where Metallica isn’t touring this year. What better way to create a VIP experience with every seat in the cinema feeling as if you are in the front row of the concert.”
