Kings of Thrash to Continue Playing Old Megadeth Tunes for an Upcoming Australian Tour
Just when you thought David Ellefson had finally moved on from playing old Megadeth tunes and returned to Dieth ahead of their new album release, it turns out that the Kings of Thrash project will ride again later this year. And while they’ll still be playing the entirety of Killing Is My Business…And Business Is Good and So Far, So Good…So What on each of the four dates announced, they’ll be doing it “Down Under.”
For four days in Australia, ex-Megadeth members Ellefson and guitarist Jeff Young will be joined by Chaz Leon on lead vocals & guitar with Fred Aching on drums to play through their setlist of classic Megadeth tunes “you’ll never hear live.”
Young said the push to bring Kings of Thrash’s show to Australia was to establish some sense of good will with thrash metal fans.
“The mission here is to bring a connection of goodwill through the music, with a collaboration of musicians and friends in our community. Our thrash tribe casts a wide net to give people hope in a time when they’re looking for something positive & uplifting. What better way than to do that than through the music which has become the soundtrack to our lives.”
Similarly, Ellefson said playing the first two Megadeth albums gives fans a chance to reconnect with some absolute bangers from the genre.
“I think we’ve assembled an energetic song list and group of musicians to capture the spirit of a genre we helped create & define so many years ago. Fans have been requesting these songs for a long time now and it seems like a good moment to bring them back to the stage.”
Honestly, it’s a bit of a shame they’re sticking to more Megadeth covers when they’ve obviously got plans for some original music too. Maybe they’ll sprinkle in some of the new stuff, who knows?
Tickets for the four dates, which will run from July 12 to July 15, will go on sale to the public on Monday, March 3 at 10 a.m. AEDT. A pre-sale with zero booking fees will be available on Thursday, March 30 at 10 a.m. AEDT, though ticket reservations will be limited at Hardline Media’s website.
The band is also offering a VIP meet and greet with both Young and Ellefson, which will include early access to the show and merch table, a photo with both musicians, a signed poster, exclusive VIP lanyard and laminate, and the ability to bring three personal items to be signed.
