Steel Panther’s Satchel Says Vince Neil “Looks Really Good,” Needs to Get His Eyes Checked
Whether you’re a fan of Mötley Crüe‘s current configuration or not, it’s undeniable that singer Vince Neil has taken the worst care of himself of the four members in recent years, an impressive feat when your bandmates are Tommy Lee and Nikki Sixx. Neil has struggled with his on-stage fitness for years, leading to a number of lackluster performances. If you’re reading MetalSucks, you’ve undoubtedly already seen these videos, but if you’re new here, try this, this and that.
In a recent interview with Loaded Radio, Steel Panther guitarist Satchel was tasked with the unenviable responsibility of attempting to squash the band’s so-called beef with Mötley Crüe after being asked what the odds of hearing Lee on a Steel Panther record are. Satchel went out of his way to praise the Crüe, going as far as to take the side of David Draiman, claiming that Neil is in good condition to perform (via Blabbermouth).
“I think Nikki had more of an issue with us than Tommy — or maybe they both did because they thought we were bagging on Vince. But I think what Michael Starr meant when he said what he said about Vince was… It was just a lighthearted jab at how bitching Vince was back in 1983 compared to how he is now. But I’ll tell you what: I saw pictures of Vince recently, and he looks really good; he’s taking care of himself. So I wish all those guys the best. I like Mötley Crüe.”
The issue between Steel Panther and Mötley Crüe dates back to 2019, when a joke made online about the ’80s version of Vince Neil being dead caused Sixx to fly off the handle. In 2020, Satchel stoked the flames by calling Lee and Sixx assholes.
No one, least of all the staff of MetalSucks, is going to argue that Tommy Lee and Nikki Sixx have a tendency to be assholes. But you’re telling me this is what “good” looks like? This just feels like denial that Starr would do a better job fronting Mötley Crüe.
