Watch The Callous Daoboys Tear Up a Bookstore with a Deftones Cover

Whether you love it or you hate it, there’s no denying that nu-metal is on a revival streak. Major bands from the early 2000s are coming back and even new acts are taking up the mantle of eight string guitars and rap rock vocals. So when frenetic mathcore outfit The Callous Daoboys decided to pull out a cover of Deftones‘ “My Own Summer (Shove It)” during a recent show, it almost seems like that was just inevitable.

It should go without saying that we enjoy ourselves some Callous Daoboys here at MetalSucks — at least I know I do — so any chance to share a video or talk about their shit is a chance I’m going to take. Over the weekend, footage surfaced of the Atlanta-based band playing a show at LowerCase Books in Knoxville, Tennesee. Yes, you read that right, they played a book store.

In the video below, you can notice a few really cool things about the band. First, they’re a band of the people; there’s no huge stage or barricade. Just people playing music for other people. Sick. Then, there’s how great they sound as a nine-piece band. Everything sounds pretty tight from what we can tell, given the video’s spotty audio quality. And then finally, it’s the fact that their violinist Amber Christman not only gets down to the song, but makes sure she gets into the mix as well. I wish I could hear a studio quality version of this, man.

Anyways, yeah. Also, I love the crowd surfing in the middle of a bookstore. What a fucking show.

The Callous Daoboys are currently on a very short end of the year tour, so definitely check ’em out if they’re in your area. The remaining dates can be found below the video.
