Sludge metal institution -(16)- return with lucky number nine, Into Dust. Coming two years after their last full-length, Dream Squasher, Into Dust is loaded with the kind of depressing, abrasive sludge -(16)- are known for. Available here.
Candlemass
Sweet Evil Sun (Napalm)
The epic doom legends’ thirteenth album is a triumph. The band’s second record with original vocalist Johan Langquist back at the helm, Sweet Evil Sun features some of the best songwriting Candlemass have had in years, capturing some of the Epicus Doomicus Metallicus magic. You know you gotta have it.
Disturbed
Divisive (Reprise)
It’s not entirely clear what about Disturbed is divisive in 2022, but the band are still here and doing there thing on eighth album Divisive. One song features Heart’s Ann Wilson, but Divisive is exactly what you expect—a Disturbed record. Embrace your rebel side.
Soen
Atlantis (Silver Linings)
Atlantis is a treat for prog lovers and dedicated fans of Soen. A live album, the Swedish progressive supergroup recorded thirteen select songs at Atlantis Grammofon Studio with special orchestral accompaniment. Also released as a concert film. Get the vinyl.
Tallah
The Generation of Danger (Earache)
This ain’t the Earache you remember. Tallah put the sounds of nü metal in a blender with the chaos of The Dillinger Escape Plan. The vocals draw obvious comparisons to heavy music’s favorite nine-piece band, but Tallah are finding new ways to be nü. Try it out for yourself.
