Sh*t That Comes Out Today – October 28, 2022
Last Friday before Halloween, better start working on that Chris Barnes cosplay… This week is another good one; get these titles and more via our partners at Gimme Metal.
Darkthrone
Astral Fortress (Peaceville)
Trve Norwegian OGs Darkthrone are back with their second album in as many years, albeit with less ellipses than 2021’s Eternal Hails……The emphasis on doom is still there, mixing with their icy bite in a way that is uniquely Darkthrone. 35 years in the game and Darkthrone are still pushing themselves and having fun. Available via Gimme.
Dead Cross
II (Ipecac)
Mike Patton, Justin Pearson (The Locust, Retox), Dave Lombardo (Slayer) and Michael Crain (Retox) join forces for their second outing as Dead Cross. Combining thrash, punk, psychedelia, spooky atmosphere, noise rock and whatever else they can think of to make their hardcore cocktail more potent, Dead Cross might actually live up to the supergroup tag. Read our full review and grab it via Gimme Metal.
Hoaxed
Two Shadows (Relapse)
The debut long player from Portland duo Hoaxed has an unmistakeable metallic edge added to the heavy rock and gothic stylings on display. Vocalist/guitarist Kat Keo has a voice that floats over Hoaxed’s compositions, rising and falling with the volume of the guitar and blasts of the drums. Two Shadows is an entrancing album. Treat yourself—it is spooky season, after all.
Morbikon
Ov Mournful Twilight (Tankcrimes)
Phil “Landphil” Hall, best known for his work with Municipal Waste and Cannabis Corpse, embraces melodic black metal on Morbikon‘s debut album, transporting listeners to Sweden circa 1995 with debut album Ov Mournful Twilight. Drum god Dave Witte and Finntroll vocalist Matthias “Vieth” Lillmåns round out the lineup and keep the black flame burning. Available now.
Thotcrime
D1G1T4L_DR1FT (Prosthetic)
Hail digital. Thotcrime‘s new album is a mixture of furious cybergrind and hardcore with heavy electronic influence, featuring guest appearances by The Callous Daoboys, Pupil Slicer and more. Guitarist Malady Jane told MetalSucks that “Musically, the album takes some of the many sounds we’ve experimented with over the past year and a half and brings them together into a cohesive unit” and she’s right—D1G1T4L_DR1FT is a record that reflects Thotcrime’s diverse identity better than anything they’ve released to date. The record may only be possible because of digital technology, but I know where you can find some analog media!
