Don’t Watch This Butcher Babies Music Video for Their Cover of “Best Friend” at Work
Seriously, don’t do it. It’s got all sorts of cool shit like fast cars, raining money, people having a good time… Just don’t do it. It’s so much fun concentrated in a few minutes that you’ll be reminded how much working for a living sucks and your boss might take exception to that. Well, that and the strippers. Probably just the strippers.
Yeah, this is a cover of Saweetie and Doja Cat’s hit “Best Friend,” but this one’s got more stuff that metalheads want, like mosh worthy riffs and pissed off sounding vocals. Are Butcher Babies the band for everyone? Absolutely not. But if this is your shit, then you’re going to love the hell out of it. Guitarist Henry Flury said making this cover sound the way it does was a challenge at first, but it quickly came together.
“It was difficult to figure out how to approach covering this song. So I told Heidi to get on the mic and just go for it. When I heard how ferocious it was, the riff just came to me. We had the song done in about 10 minutes.”
Heidi Shepherd said the cover made sense for the band, since it highlights just how close everyone has become over the years.
“During the last 15 as Butcher Babies, we have proved that a strong friendship can and will withstand all. When I first heard this song by Saweetie & Doja Cat, I knew that we needed to be the ones to bring this into the metal world. With our un-breakable bond, Carla and I just grow stronger each time we play this to a live audience. It’s a true anthem of female power, screaming, ‘we are stronger together.’ I am truly honored to scream this song along my best friend.”
Carla Harvey added that the song was great because “in a world wherein women are often pitted against each other, we instead chose to celebrate each other and grow together.”
