Classic Concert of the Day: Pantera at the Hollywood Palladium on June 6, 1992
There was a time when the biggest and baddest motherfuckers in metal were four guys from the American south in a band called Pantera. Philip H. Anselmo, Rex Brown, Vinnie Paul, and “Dimebag” Darrell were a well-oiled machine of grooves, riffs, and determination. And while most of the conversation these days surrounds the planned reunion/tribute/whatever shows, it’s easy to forget just how absolutely dominant the band really was.
To help jog the memory and to show just how explosive their live shows were back in the day, we’re taking a little trip 30 years back to 1992 while Pantera was on their Vulgar Display of Power tour. These guys were just at the top of their game, having released an instantly iconic record and you can see that in full force in the clip below.
So for this Sunday morning, let’s travel back to a simpler time. Let’s go back to a world where Pogs were cool, Saturday morning cartoons were still a thing, and the biggest scandal in Washington was whether the president got a little extra attention from a certain intern in the White House. When terrorists were relegated to cheap action films and those bastard Yankees hadn’t yet dominated baseball.
Let’s just relax and watch Vinnie Paul, “Dimebag” Darrell, Rex Brown, and Phillip H. Anselmo kick some ass in Hollywood with the fan-filmed clip below. Oh and don’t worry about the sound, it’s synced up with the soundboard audio.
