Sh*t That Comes Out Today – September 30, 2022
It’s Slipknot release day, which is basically a holiday when you care this much about what Corey Taylor thinks…
You can grab most of today’s listed releases over at Gimme Metal’s MetalSucks collection.
Slipknot
The End, So Far (Roadrunner)
Nü metal’s resident nonet returns with The End, So Far, their first album since the pandemic and internal lineup changes. Slipknot‘s last album on Roadrunner, The End, So Far treads some familiar ground and some new, but it’s unquestionably Slipknot. Who knows what the next chapter for the band has in store, but The End, So Far is a worthy celebration to end an era.
Autopsy
Morbidity Triumphant (Peaceville)
After seven years without new original music, West Coast death metal legends Autopsy return with Morbidity Triumphant. Blood, guts and riffs are all available in excess quantities on the new long player, which also features some of the sickest song titles this side of Shitfun.
Escuela Grind
Memory Theater (MNRK Heavy)
New England “false grind” outfit Escuela Grind are coming into their own on new album Memory Theater. Aided by a Kurt Ballou production job, the eight tracks are bigger and the breakdowns are heavier than ever before. There’s a lot more metallic hardcore influence on songs like “Endowed with Windows” and “All is Forgiven” and plenty of grind blasters like “Memory Theater” and “Faulty Blueprints,” which gives Memory Theater a good flow. There’s been a lot of chatter about Escuela Grind for a few years, but this is the first time their recordings truly live up to the hype.
Raven
Leave ‘Em Bleeding (Steamhammer/SPV)
Leave ‘Em Bleeding is more of a compilation of what Raven‘s been up to for the last seven years plus some unreleased music than it is a proper full-length. Old-school heavy metal fans will have plenty to sink their teeth into, as the seminal NWOBHM outfit are still going strong. Raven are dishing out speed metal better than most of the new bands doing it, so don’t count the OGs out.
Drowning Pool
Strike a Nerve (T-BOY/UMe)
If you really miss Hellyeah, the new Drowning Pool is here to help. The album’s lead single, “Mind Right,” is a tribute to Pantera and there’s definitely some Texas groove in here. Strike a Nerve also features some of our favorite artwork of the year.
