You’ll Never Guess What Saboton’s Newly Announced Movie is About
In a surprise announcement, Swedish metal giants Saboton revealed that they’ve been working on a major movie project dubbed The War to End All Wars. If you’ve been following along with the band’s work over the years, that title and subject matter should come as no surprise to you.
According to the band, the movie will be a musical motion picture that heavily relies on the band’s 10th studio effort of the same name to act as the soundtrack. As you’ve probably already gathered, the movie is about World War I, which at the time was sadly (and hilariously) believed to be such a massive conflict that mankind would never want to engage in war again. Because you know, that’s possible.
Bassist Pär Sundström said the band had previously shown an early version of the film to members of the media while promoting The War to End All Wars and were met with an interesting reaction.
“We premiered an early version of this movie to journalists during a preview session for our latest album, The War To End All Wars, at the Royal Military Museum in Brussels. Witnessing their reaction to it was priceless — they were speechless — so we decided to take it to the next level and push the boundaries even further for a global audience.”
The movie, of which you can check out a short clip below, will be a mixture of computer generated animation and live action footage. Apparently, the film is in post production and is being made in collaboration with Yarnhub.
Even though Yarnhub and Saboton have worked together in the past, most recently being their animated video for “The Red Baron,” this latest project was a massive undertaking that neither side had done before.
“When Saboton asked us to go beyond anything we had produced before and jointly create a film for their new album, we were filled with excitement and trepidation. It was a massive undertaking that required new people, technology, and skills. But we couldn’t miss the opportunity. We often say our mission is to harvest goosebumps, and our work with Saboton has always been the most successful in that regard. It’s been two years in the making, but after spending many late nights and weekends in meetings with the band, the end result is something unique. A new way to listen to the album; a deeper understanding that helps the viewer experience the bravery and tragedy that was the inspiration for Saboton’s latest masterwork.”
