Serj Tankian Can Virtually Be In Your Room to Listen to a Track Off His Upcoming EP Perplex Cities
Ever wanted to see a rock star hanging out in your room, listening to his own music, and explaining his thought process behind the track? What if that rock star was System of a Down vocalist Serj Tankian and the music he was sharing with you was one of the five tracks off his upcoming solo EP Perplex Cities?
If your answer to all of that was “no,” then I dunno what to tell you. But if you’re even a little intrigued, then check it out. Tankian is teaming up with augmented reality company Arloopa to provide a special way to premiere new music. Through the app, you can use your phone to scan your room and immediately have a digital version of the singer pop up as if he were right in front of you.
The first track available through the app is titled “Pop Imperialism,” with the remaining four tracks showing up through the app over the next four weeks. Tankian said this was an unique opportunity to try something new.
“I’m always trying to create new and interesting ways to connect with people via my music. We made some amazing videos for the last EP Elasticity, so I wanted to try something different for Perplex Cities. I love the idea of appearing in the room with someone listening to my music. It’s intimate, fun, and different.”
Perplex Cities is Tankian’s second EP in as many years, following 2021’s Elasticity. Before most people come into the EP thinking it’s more like his 2007 release Elect the Dead, Tankian said this new release explores some uncharted territory in his career.
“This whole collection of songs within Perplex Cities is a completely different sound than what I’ve done before. More electronic, subtle and deeper in terms of its layers of presentation musically. Perplex Cities gives off an aura that is unique and unlike my previous releases.”
If you want to hang out with Serj and listen to some new music, you can do so by downloading the Arloopa app and inviting the Armenian vocalist into your home today.
Perplex Cities will be available to everyone via popular streaming platforms on October 21.
