Yungblud Mashed Up Black Sabbath, Kanye West and The 1975 and It Actually Works Really Well
UK rock/pop rising star Yungblud has crossed into the MetalSucks peripheral a few times. Ozzy sees shades of the musician in himself (after hitting him with his car) and Mick Jagger thinks Yungblud (along with MGK) is saving rock ‘n’ roll. Yungblud’s music isn’t metal at all but he clearly has a love for Osbourne.
He took that love a step further in a recent performance for BBC’s Live Lounge, where he performed a medley of songs: Black Sabbath‘s “War Pigs,” Kanye West‘s “Power” and The 1975’s “Part of the Band.” Before you write the performance off as lame or a publicity stunt, watch the video below.
Yungblud and his band start off with “War Pigs,” which they absolutely do justice to. The young rocker has a very strong voice and he uses it for a faithful rendition of the anti-war anthem. The coolest part of the medley comes around the 55-second mark of the video, when the band seamlessly transitions from the “War Pigs” riff into the intro to “Power.” He transitions into “Part of the Band” before looping it back to his West cover and then ending with The 1975. As he finishes the performance, he laughs and smiles, clearly aware of the fact that he didn’t just embarrass himself on the internet.
The Live Lounge performance comes just a few days after the release of his third studio album, Yungblud. In June, Yungblud spoke about his relationship with Ozzy:
“People think [Ozzy] is kind of… gone, but he’s not. He’s so intelligent and so fucking beautiful. People are scared of him until they hear him speak. He said that he saw a lot of himself in me.”
And if this isn’t your bag? Well, at least Yungblud isn’t getting himself wrapped up in plagiarism, selling a $200 album or losing his God damn mind on Instagram.
