Spoiler NYC Channels Travis Bickle in “Damaged Goods” Video
Travis Bickle, the iconic anti-hero played by Robert DeNiro in Martin Scorsese’s 1976 classic Taxi Driver rides again through the streets of New York City in the new Spoiler NYC video for their latest single, “Damaged Goods.”
Though NYC in 2022 is vastly different from the city captured in that film, Spoiler NYC frontman and Life of Agony bassist Alan Robert perfectly captures the character’s look and style as the main character of that classic flick.
“There’s no sicker feeling in the world than driving down the streets of New York in an old cab dressed like Travis Bickle. Random strangers were running over to snap selfies with me, thinking we were filming a sequel or something!”
Produced by Grammy winner Ken Lewis, whose previous works include the Wu Tang Clan, Eminem, and the Beastie Boys, “Damaged Goods” is a rockin’ tune that exists in the same musical time zone as the Dropkick Murphys and Social Distortion. It’s a fun listen that hits all those checkboxes.
Derek Soto, the director for the “Damaged Goods” music video, said shooting it was a unique experience.
“It was truly a sight to behold Alan’s transformation into Travis and his uncanny resemblance to DeNiro in the movie. It was an honor to be chosen to help bring Spoiler NYC’s vision and concept to life on camera, paying homage to a film that is one of my all-time favorites. I say with proud confidence that working on this music video has pushed my potential for future projects to come.”
“Damaged Goods” will appear on the upcoming album Banned in 38 States, which is available digitally right now and can be preordered on limited edition green and purple vinyl for eventual release this Halloween. The upcoming album is a 15th anniversary reissue of the band’s 2007 debut album Grease Fire in Hell’s Kitchen, which will include two new tracks.
