Anthrax Call Off European Tour Because of Rising Costs and Logistical Problems
You hate to see this kind of news break, but I’m afraid it’s likely not going to stop anytime soon. Though we’ve seen high travel costs and logistical problems derail metal tours in recent weeks, Anthrax‘s cancellation of European dates earlier today is likely the biggest ticket to succumb to such problems.
The tour was supposed to start on September 27 in Birmingham, U.K. and end in Milan, Italy on November 4, but will instead come to a close on their final U.K. date on October 8 in London. According to a statement posted to the band’s social media channels, the cancellation was largely out of their control.
“Sadly due to ongoing logistical issues and 2022 costs that are out of our control, we have no other option but to cancel the European leg of our upcoming 2022 tour. We will however be coming to the UK as scheduled. Tickets can be refunded at point of purchase.”
Anthrax just finished a U.S. tour with Black Label Society and Hatebreed, but were forced to cancel shows during that slate of dates due to a variety of health and safety issues.
Sadly, this is likely not going to be the last time a major tour gets kiboshed due to extenuating circumstances. Between climate change messing up travel plans to a major pandemic causing a huge shift in staffing within various industries, artists are going to have to consider those issues moving forward whenever they plan a tour.
The “Big Four” band has been celebrating their 40th anniversary this year and the tour was supposed to be an extension of that celebration.
Despite the major cancellation, Anthrax will still play some shows in the U.K., with Municipal Waste and Sworn Enemy filling out the bill. You can check those shows out at one of the dates below:
