Machine Head

Oakland groove metal crew Machine Head take a stab at returning to form after the colossal miss that was 2018’s Catharsis with a concept album. Øf Kingdøm and Crøwn was loosely inspired by Attack on Titan and sees the band really dig into the aggressive side of their sound.

The Endless (Profound Lore)

There was always something special about Denver progressive doom outfit Dreadnought, but it’s especially evident on their fifth album, The Endless. Sticking a genre tag on the album feels like a waste of time; it’s better to just get lost in the alluring textures and hypnotic dual-vocal performance of guitarist/vocalist Kelly Schilling and keyboardist/vocalist Lauren Vieira. The Endless won’t fill the SubRosa-sized hole in your heart, but it’s just as good in its own right.

Altered Pasts (Pure Noise)

The new band from former The Dillinger Escape Plan drummer Billy Rhymer, Thoughtcrimes is a very modern-sounding metal band that believes in the power of dynamics: loud and quiet, heavy and soft. There’s a wide range of sounds on the album, from sludge, hardcore and chaos to softer moments.

Cause of Death – Live Infection (Relapse)

Death metal institution Obituary are actually releasing two live albums today: Cause of Death – Live Infection and Slowly We Rot – Live and Rotting. The two performances were recorded during Obituary’s pandemic livestream. Any time the Floridian legends break out their “Circle of the Tyrants” cover is a time to celebrate.
