Ronnie James Dio Documentary Headed to Movie Theaters Soon

It’s been a little more than 12 years since the great Ronnie James Dio succumbed to his battle with gastric cancer, but that doesn’t mean the metal world’s been able to forget his immense talent. On September 28 and October 1, movie theaters across the globe will show an officially sanctioned documentary on the singer’s life, titled Dio: Dreamers Never Die.

Financed entirely by BMG and executive produced by Dio’s widow and long-time manager Wendy Dio, directors Don Argott and Demian Fenton were given access to never-before-seen footage and photos of the metal icon, getting a closer look at his rise from a ’50s doo-wop singer to the bombastic vocalist we remember him as.

The documentary will also include in-depth interviews with some of Dio’s closest friends and contemporaries, including Wendy, Black Sabbath members Tony Iommy and Geezer Butler, Deep Purple vocalist Glenn Hughes, prolific drummer Vinny Apice, Lita Ford, Judas Priest‘s Rob Halford, ex-Skid Row singer Sebastian Bach, Eddie Trunk, and Jack Black.

Argott and Fenton said Ronnie James Dio’s life story was one of “confiction, talent and heart.”

“It is refreshing to share [Dio’s] inspiring story of believing in yourself and chasing your dreams. As lifelong Dio fans, it is incredibly humbling to bring Ronnie’s journey to the screen and we can’t wait to share it with audiences.”

Tickets for Dio: Dreamers Never Die will be available online next Wednesday, August 24 at 10 a.m. EDT.
