Trailer: Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal, the Most Brutal Cartoon of All Time, Returns for Season 2 This Month
If you’re a fan of cartoons beyond getting high and snickering at them, you know who Genndy Tartakovsky is. The animator’s most renowned works are the Cartoon Network shows Dexter’s Laboratory and Samurai Jack, though it’s worth noting that he’s also the director behind the Hotel Transylvania series. But what some might not know is Tartakovsky’s show Primal, a wordless adult cartoon set in a Frank Frazetta-esque prehistoric wasteland. And now, according to Bloody Disgusting, Season 2 will come out latter this month.
For those who don’t know it, Primal revolves around the adventures of Spear, a caveman, and Fang, a tyrannosaur, who decide to travel the world together after their families are taken from them. The duo are friends only in so much as the law of the jungle allows them to be, but still manage to overcome obstacles, care for one another, and slaughter a menagerie of ancient monsters including giant snakes, mammoth armies, pterodactyl-riding witches, zombie brontosaurs, and vampire bats in service of a spider god. According to the trailer below, Spear and Fang will now battle gargantuan sharks, giant vultures, and worst of all, advanced humanoids in their ongoing quest to survive.
Season 2 of Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal premieres Thursday, July 21st, at midnight on Adult Swim. Check out the trailer for Season 2 below, and watch Season 1 if you haven’t already. I’m not understating things when I tell you that this is the best fucking TV show of all time.
