Alice Cooper Says His Current Band Is “the Best I’ve Ever Worked With…[Nita Strauss] Can Shred With the Best of Them”
It’s sort of metal’s worst-kept secret, but Alice Cooper? Nicest fucking guy. Though his onstage persona is that of a dastardly murderous ringmaster, the Coop is in fact a sweet, thoughtful dude (and a pleasure to interview, for the record). That said, Alice is also a professional, and has been in the business long enough to tell if a member of his band isn’t hacking it. Which is why it’s a massive compliment that Alice has described his current line-up as the best band he’s ever had.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone Germany, Alice described what he looks for when he’s putting a band together, saying:
“When I get ready to put a band together, I look for not just how great they are, but [also] their personalities. That’s the important thing. Are they going to be somebody that’s going to be fun to work with? Or are they going to be, you know, depressing? Are they going to be arrogant? Are they going to be egocentric? Everybody in my band are best friends.”
He then went on to talk about his current band, and here he didn’t mince words:
“Musically, it’s the best band I’ve ever worked with. I mean – Nita Strauss won guitarist of the decade in Guitar magazine. Total Shredder; she could really shred with the best of them. Glen Sobel, our drummer, won best drummer two years ago. The band is excellent. And now, I really believe that people come to the shows to hear the songs. I think they want to hear those songs really precise. And so that’s what we work on, more than anything else. And then they get the show on top of it. It’s like icing on the cake, you know, to see all the production.”
D’aaaw.
