Hatebreed’s Jamey Jasta Is Bringing Back Milwaukee Metalfest in 2023

Way back in the dark era that occurred around the turn of the millennium, Milwaukee Metalfest was one of THE festivals to catch in the United States. While major tours like Ozzfest were booking the most fashionable bands in rock and metal, Milwaukee founder Jack Koshick was packing bills with acts like Death, Mayhem, King Diamond, and Cancer. And now, Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta has acquired the rights to the annual bacchanal — and is bringing it back in 2023.

Says Jasta of the festival’s return:

“I am so grateful and thrilled that Jack Koshick has passed the Milwaukee Metalfest torch off to me. He is a visionary and we will carry on the MMF legacy for years to come. So many of us have great memories from Milwaukee Metalfest, and the time is right for it to return.

“On a recent podcast I did with the late [Black Dahlia Murder singer] Trevor Strnad (RIP), I fantasized about bringing the fest back and even wanted Trevor to curate it with me. In light of his death, I feel the need to see it through and relaunch the festival in 2023.”

Adds Koshick:

“Milwaukee Metal Fest has been a labor of love for me. I started working on it when I was 29; I am now 66. I want to thank all those living and dead for making this dream come true. Most of all, I want to thank the bands, fans, and crews that made this happen. The time has come to move on. I feel Jamey Jasta and his partners will do a fine job representing the brand. Until we meet again, I love you all.”

Given that death metal seems to be the genre’s most talked-about niche right now, the return of Milwaukee Metalfest could be huge. Not only are there a shitload of bands to choose from right now, but many of those bands would want to play there simply to walk in the footsteps of their elders.

Anyway, keep an eye out for the return of Milwaukee Metalfest in the near future.
