Worn Out’s Filthy, Excitable Hardcore Cannot Be Ignored
The first we heard of Cork’s Worn Out was on St. Patrick’s Day, when we asked our Twitter users to suggest some awesome Irish bands who we’d never heard of. The fact that they were suggested again when we asked our readers for underground artists to showcase today is impressive on its own — but what was even more awesome was that we remembered them specifically. Not all of the Irish bands we showcased stuck in our minds, but Worn Out stood out as one of the more exciting young acts we’ve encountered in a long while.
One can hear flashes of standard metallic hardcore influences in Worn Out’s music — there’s some Converge, there’s some Scarlet, there’s Dillinger Escape Plan. But what has kept the band so firmly lodged between the cheeks of our brain is their extra dose of pitch-black filth.
There’s something to the disgusted “UGH” of vocalist Xander Coughlan and the occasional rattling blastbeat of drummer Evan Prendergast that exudes the oil-slick darkness of acts like Trap Them and Ringworm. These guys aren’t just angry, they’re misanthropic. They’ll watch your tower crumble.
Here’s what the dudes in Worn Out had to say for themselves:
“We are an Irish metallic hardcore band based in Cork. We just released our EP WASTE in December and since then have toured Scotland, England and Ireland in support of it with more tours to announce soon.
“We are playing shows in Ireland with Cro-Mags on June 23rd in Dolans, Limerick, and June 25th in Voodoo, Belfast. After that we have something we will be working on that we will be announcing soon for later this year that we are extremely excited for.
“Keep an eye on all our socials over the coming months.”
