Clutch Drop Snappy New Single, Announce North American Tour with Helmet and Quicksand
We know there’s a new Clutch album on the way, we’re just not exactly sure when it’s going to tackle us. The band already dropped the first single, “Red Alert (Boss Metal Zone),” back in April, but they provided no further details about an upcoming release. Now, the band have another new track, “We Strive for Excellence,” which is being touted as “the next single from the new album,” and they’ve also announced a fall headlining tour with Helmet and Quicksand. So yeah, new album’s definitely in the pipeline, we just don’t know when or where it’ll land.
What we really like about “We Strive for Excellence,” besides the fact that it’s solidly under three minutes, is that its themes feel distinctly Clutch. Maybe this is just our lyrical interpretation, but the song seems to be from the point of view of a bunch of scabby kids in their shed out in the woods, putting together an obstacle course so they can film themselves grievously injuring their bodies. It’s a solid tribute to being a kid determined to jump that fucking mogul if it kills you.
Looks like frontman Neil Fallon feels the same way:
“We Strive for Excellence looks back fondly on childhood summers filled with grand plans gone awry, inexplicable bruises, untreated injuries, and of course, the timeless wisdom of Evel Knievel.”
Killer.
Check out the track below, and catch Clutch on one of their upcoming tour dates with Helmet and Quicksand below. Cool line-up.
